VISUAL ARTS DEPARTMENT (Lynne Fischer, Coordinator)
The visual arts encompass the disciplines of painting, drawing, etching, sculpture, and photography. All are valid ways of expressing the creativity of the artist. The visual arts program is open to all artists wishing to display their work through a series of shows and exhibitions held throughout the year at locations in and around Apex. Artists interested in participating in these programs should contact us at Info@ApexArtsCouncil.org to be placed on the list for each Call-for-Artists issued.
The Apex Community Theatre (ACT) is an organized theatre company promoting family friendly productions, plays, and musicals to reach those interested in viewing and participating in live theatre with moral and family friendly messages. We always welcome actors (with or without experience) to participate with the group as well as producers and directors willing to take on the task of staging productions at local theaters and other venues. Other positions are available to individuals from stage managers to costumers to lighting directors. The Dance Theatre of Apex is an organized dance company promoting all forms of the terpsechorian arts. The leader, Jackie Rafferty, started ballet at seven years old, and at eleven years old she entered the preparatory program at University of North Carolina School of the Arts and from there went on to the Kirov Academy of Ballet in Washington, DC. Then she became a principal dance for the Alabama Ballet and danced leading roles in many ballets. She has been a dance educator for over ten years and takes pride in bringing her professional experience to Apex.
MUSICAL ARTS PROGRAM (Susan Heiserman, Coordinator)
The Musical Arts Program at the Apex Arts Council spans the length and breadth of the spectrum. Every genre is welcome to participate and highlight its own unique way of expression. Musicians and groups involved provide primary and backup entertainment at other events, allowing the participants to be seen by a wide audience.
LITERARY ARTS PROGRAM (Bob Crowley, Coordinator)
The Literary Arts, from prose to poetry, are a very important part of our services. We provide classes in creative writing, arrange book signings, public poetry readings, and author showcase events. APEX WRITERS GUILD (Bob Crowley, Coordinator)
The Apex Writers Guild is an ongoing program to provide writers with a forum to discuss their work and/or the business of writing and publishing in general with their peers. It is an opportunity for published authors, budding writers, would-be writers, and lovers of literature of all types to come together for their mutual benefit. All disciplines of the literary arts are encompassed in the group from novels and prose to short stories to poetry.
EDUCATION DEPARTMENT (Carolyn Briggs-Gaul, Coordinator)
The Apex Arts Council provides education and classes in the arts and related disciplines to help artists and emerging artists develop their craft to the fullest. The arts are as wide and varied as the imagination inherent within each of us.
